“Kockyn wishes Happy Ningol Chakkouba to all”
——————————————————–
Ningol Chakkouba
Ningol Chakkouba is one of the most important festivals of Manipur. It is a very special day for the married women of Manipur. In Manipuri, the word “Ningol” means “daughter” or “woman” and “Chakkouba” means “to invite to a feast”. Literally, “Ningol Chakkouba” means “to invite women to a feast”. On the very day of Ningol Chakkouba, the married women are invited to their parental home and they are served with various cuisines. At the end of the day, they are given various gifts. In return, they shower warm blessings on their brothers. But the idea behind Ningol Chakkouba is not just inviting women, enjoying a delicious meal and giving gifts. Ningol Chakkouba reflects the selfless love of the parents towards their daughters and that of the brothers towards their sisters. This once a year event renews the special bond between the married women and their family. It also brings an occasion to meet their childhood friends and revive the old memories. Ningol Chakkouba is celebrated every year on the 2nd day of the Manipuri month Hiyangei.
